Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ReelMetrics handles your personal information during the invite-only public alpha. We are committed to transparency and protecting your privacy.

1. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

Account Information

  • Email address (used for login and communication)
  • Display name (optional)

Screenplay Content

  • The screenplay file(s) you upload (PDF, Final Draft, or Fountain format)
  • Metadata such as title, draft number, and submission timestamp

Usage Data

  • Pages viewed, features used, and actions taken within the application
  • Date and time of visits
  • Technical data such as IP address, browser type, and device information (for security and troubleshooting)

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal information to:

  • Provide the ReelMetrics analysis service — processing your screenplay and generating reports
  • Create and maintain your account
  • Communicate with you about your submissions, reports, and service updates
  • Improve the service by analyzing usage patterns (in aggregate, anonymized form)
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We engage trusted third parties to help operate the service. These providers may have access to your data solely to perform their functions:

  • OpenRouter — provides AI/LLM analysis of screenplay content. Your screenplay text is transmitted to OpenRouter's API for processing. See their Terms and Privacy Policy.
  • OMDB (Open Movie Database) — supplies film metadata for comparable titles. We send movie title/year queries; no personal data is shared.
  • TMDB (The Movie Database) — supplies additional film metadata and poster images. See their API Terms.
  • MinIO (self-hosted object storage) — securely stores screenplay files and analysis artifacts on our dedicated LAN storage host. Not a third party; operated by ReelMetrics.

We do not permit these providers to use your data for their own purposes beyond what is necessary to provide the service to us.

4. Data Retention

During the alpha, we retain your account information and submission history for the duration of the alpha program. Screenplay files and generated reports are stored for at least 90 days after submission to allow you to access your reports. After that period, we may delete or archive the files while preserving metadata for internal analytics.

You may request earlier deletion of your data at any time (see Section 6).

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), secure storage on a private LAN, and access controls limiting personnel who can view user content. However, no system is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security, especially during the alpha testing phase.

6. Your Data Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access Right: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification Right: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure Right (Right to be Forgotten): Request deletion of your personal data, including your screenplay submissions.
  • Portability Right: Request your data in a readily usable format.
  • Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal data for monetary consideration.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information in Section 8. We will respond within a reasonable time and may verify your identity before fulfilling the request. Some data may be retained for legitimate business purposes or as required by law, even if you request deletion.

7. Cookies and Tracking

ReelMetrics does not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies. Our application may set first-party session cookies necessary for authentication and CSRF protection. No tracking pixels or external analytics scripts are deployed on the public-facing sites. Your use of the service constitutes acceptance of these minimal cookies.

8. International Users

The ReelMetrics service is hosted in the United States. By using the service, you consent to the transfer of your data to the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your country. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we rely on appropriate safeguards (contractual clauses and limited transfer) to protect your data.

9. Children's Privacy

ReelMetrics is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
